Sweeping Incense
Posted on December 15, 2007 by Jim Atwood in Flickr Japan | Comments
Some Japanese temples have a large pot or urn with a small roof over it for the burning of incense. You will often see people sweeping cupped hands through the smoke and directing it onto their bodies. It is said to be helpful if you have an injury or illness.
Ringo City

Ringo is apple in Japanese for those who don’t know. The Japanese apples are generally more expensive and more popular than the US imported apples. However, the US imported apples are much cheaper at least here in Nagano. The Japanese apples also sell out faster. I actually like the big Japanese apples the best myself. It’s also interesting that most American ( I believe ) eat apples with the skin or without, while the Japanese only eat the insides. I haven’t really met anyone who will eat apple skin. Perhaps someone Japanese could chime in and correct me if I’m wrong. Enjoy!
